The Secrets

The backstory (in case you didn’t already know) Phil was a truck driver with so many unused skills. In 2009, he got a fabulous opportunity to be property manager for a retreat center that was being built from the ground up. He got out of the truck and was outstanding at his job. We don’t know what happened, we have our suspicions (and some of those suspicions have been confirmed) but in the end, Phil was fired without notice or warning and for no reason, right before what we understood was the grand opening of the center (which was at the end of July last year.) We were living on site and told we had 45 days to vacate the property…which (to us) meant: find a new job and a new place to live. We panicked a bit, but almost immediately, God gave me the word “protect” during prayer and I held on to that for dear life.

We ended up here. I wasn’t happy at first.  There was so much pain wrapped up in the situation. I was selfish. I needed to heal.

Phil had to go back to driving. And that turned into him working 70-80 hours a week for the last year. And that takes a mighty big toll on a man and his family. I’ve been praying for quite some time that God would provide a job with half the hours and the same pay. At the beginning of  this year, God brought me to my face in prayer.  It was then I understood that God had something planned for us. (silly, I know, since God already knows everything, but listen, when I’m in the chaos of it all, I don’t always know that He knows.)
I started fasting. I was also asked to do my first solo art show (not one, but two!)  And my health started failing.

And then God revealed something that I thought I’d never have to deal with again.

And now…the secrets.

God made clear to us that He wants us involved in a church plant, but at the time, we were clueless as to how He was going to orchestrate it all. It seems that little by little the details are being revealed.

Phil’s last day at the company that overworked and underpaid him was tonight. Thus the (free to me) $100 bottle of wine!!  He starts his new job Monday and there’s a decent chance that in January the company will move us to the city where the church is being planted that we believe we’re supposed to be a part of.  We won’t know until around Christmas where we’ll be relocated–but we’re praying it’s this place.

Also…tonight I drove to that city and we had our first gathering.

I hope God moves us there, but even if He doesn’t, I still believe with every ounce of my entire being, that this is part of God’s plan for us.

In one year God has done an extraordinary amount of work on us.  I’m sometimes shocked I made it through, but even more, I’m anticipating what’s next!!

  1. This such a beautiful story! Of trust and faith and how He works everything for good.

    I will be praying, friend!

  2. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

  3. Adam texted me around 5 pm yesterday & asked me to pray for the first gathering. I’m sooooooo happy, but envious, in a mom’s way, that you are able to listen to Adam’s teachings every week, & hear what the Holy Spirit is saying through him. In the years that I served in the children’s ministry & in the youth ministry on his team, I learned so much about myself, about God, & about his heart, that when the time came to move, I was heartbroken. It wasn’t so much that I would miss him as a mom, but I would miss him as a teacher & preacher. He has a passion that is rare in ministers his age. I’m so proud of him & Kelsey, & I know that God has HUGE plans for the LampPost Church. Love you Michelle!
