Sandhill Crane Migration

I have two that come for the sushi bar (aka: the goldfish in my pond) and I’ve NEVER been able to be quiet enough or quick enough to get a photo.

This afternoon, we packed a picnic dinner and headed to Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife area today to see the yearly Sandhill Cranes migration. J-P has a wonderful observation deck and WOW!!!

I absolutely adore Sandhill cranes (and Blue Herons) and have never seen so many in my life. I was told that there’d be more than four or five thousand birds a little later in the season. I must go back!

Here’s the field when we first got there.

And the same field right before we left, just after the sun set.

Aren’t they amazing??

  1. I’ve heard that November is a great time to see them out there. We always “intend” to go, but most of the time, the weather is uncooperative (imagine that!)

    They are simply beautiful!

  2. Thanks everyone!

I AM going back in November. And hopefully at least once a year after! It is spectacular–to say the least!

  3. That's unbelievable. I've never seen so many in one place! When lived on a small pond in Crown Point and had regular crane visitors.
